ARTISINAL GUADALAJARA DINNER WITH TEQUILA PAIRING FROM SAN MATIAS DISTILLERY AND PORTLAND BARMAN TOMMY KLUS

Mario Echanove, Master Distiller at San Matias Distillery, is coming to town for the release of their new artisinal tequila, San Matias Tahona, and he will be joining us for a special meal from Jalisco’s capital with pairings of their tequila.  The distillery has been making quality agave spirits since 1886.  Their brand, Pueblo Viejo, is the tequila we use for our margaritas.  

To celebrate San Matias’s 130th anniversary, they have introduced San Matías Tahona, a handmade, artisanal silver tequila, made from the finest 100% Weber Blue Agave. The tequila is made using the tahona method where the agave is ground with a massive stone wheel creating a complex spirit with the earthy, vegetal flavors and aromas often missing from sanitized industrial tequilas. The San Matias Tahona is currently available at our Chinatown bar and can be purchased from Hyland Hills Liquor Store

Come join us, Monday, February 27th, for a special dinner of dishes from Guadalajara made with local and seasonal ingredients paired with tequila and cocktails made with liquor from San Matias distillery, chosen and mixed by Tommy Klus. Tommy is a local bar legend, having worked at Bluehour and St. Jack, then heading the bar programs at Kask, Multnomah Whiskey Library, and now La Moule.  Tequila and mezcal have always been loves of his and it’s shown on his cocktail menus.

Four-course dinner will include:

  • Ensalada de Jaiba: Dungeness crab salad with jicama, avocado, and apple.
  • Torta Ahogada: Sandwich of pork belly carnitas, fingerling potatoes, and wild mushrooms smothered in red chile sauce.
  • Pork Cheek Pozole: Spiced hominy soup with braised pork cheek and smoked boar taquitos.
  • Concha Ice Cream Sandwich: Small sugar-crusted breads made locally filled with Cool Moon Ice Cream

We will try to accommodate vegetarians or others with special diets, but you must notify us when you request your reservation.  It will be too difficult to provide an alternative the day of the event.

Where: NW 5th & Couch (32 NW 5th), our Chinatown location only. 
Cost: $35 for meal, $47.50 with special San Matias tequila and cocktail pairing created by Tommy Klus
