Dia de los Muertos — Day of the Day — Friday & Saturday, Nov 1 & 2

Day of the Dead is a time to remember those we’ve lost and celebrate the good things in life.  Come in this Friday and Saturday and celebrate with us.  We’ll have food specials, drink specials, be showing Santo movies, and much more…..

How we’re celebrating:

  • Ofrenda & Decorations: Check out our Day of the Dead altar in our entryway.  It has pictures of family members and even pets of our employees that have been lost. There’s pan de muerto (day of the dead bread), fruit, Mexican folk art, sugar skulls and other decorated skulls, nichos, etc.  We’ve also got special multi-colored Day of the Dead papel picado in both rooms along with skulls and skeletons everywhere.
  • Free Day of the Dead Face Painting: Saturday from 4pm to 6pm, free for all ages.
  • Free Food: Anyone who comes in with their face painted for Day of the Dead — or gets their face painted — gets a free taco.  Anyone who comes in full-costume, gets a free meal.
  • Santo Movies: Santo, the silver-masked luchador, Mexico’s Superman (or Buffy the Vampire Slayer), will be fighting vampires, zombies, and other supernatural baddies on screen all weekend.

Special food and drink:

  • Quince Mole: A sweet mole using quinces picked from El Jefe’s own tree. This will only be available for these days.
  • Huitlacoche Quesadillas: The so-called “corn truffle” — a dark and flavorful fungus that turns cobs of corn into one of Mexico’s most prized ingredients.
  • Pan de Muerto: Orange and anise-flavored egg bread with traditional skull and crossbones design.
  • Champurrado: Chocolate drink thickened with ground nixtamal.
  • Oaxacan Wassail: A spiced pineapple cider, served warm with mezcal
  • Free Food: Anyone who comes in with their face painted for Day of the Dead — or gets their face painted — gets a free taco.  Anyone who comes in full-costume, gets a free meal.

Tequila Tastings 1st & 3rd Sundays

Sunny Sundays are gone. But don’t be glum. Come drink with us.

Tequila tastings are back!

Every first and third Sunday at 4pm, we’ll be pouring tequilas and mezcals and talking agave. Our next tastings are:

November 3rd, 4pm: Anejos, blind-tasting 6 well-aged tequilas

November 17th, 4pm: Mezcals, blind-tasting 5 mezcals

Please email us to join our tequila tastings newsletter or RSVP. We do have a limit on the number of participants for each tasting, so we do need you to RSVP.  We also host private and group tastings, so feel free to contact us if interested in one of those.
