Special-Order Mole Tamales for Christmas

While you can always come in and buy dozens of tamales filled with pork in adobo, chicken in salsa verde, or green chiles & cheese, for Christmas, we will be making tamales filled with turkey in mole or butternut squash in mole.  These will be available by pre-order only and can be picked up anytime the weekend before Christmas, beginning Friday the 21st. 

They make a great side dish on Christmas Eve or for Christmas day — or a great snack when you’re too worn out to cook during the holidays. Email or call us  (503.232.8226) after 2pm to place your order.  All our tamales are gluten-free as is our mole, which we make from scratch using over 20 ingredients.  The butternut squash tamales are vegan.

Hannukah Tamale “Latkes”

Hannukah begins today, December 8th.  Believe it or not, Jews have a long tradition in Mexico and a meaningful community in Mexico City.  Latkes and other fried foods, such as sufganiyot (Jewish jelly donuts), are traditional to the holiday. To usher in the Festival of Lights, we’ll be frying up tamales Sunday the 9th until we run out.  Tamales dorados are actually a lesser-known gem on the streets of Mexico City. We’ll be cooking up green chile and cheese tamales and serving them with salsa and sour cream for $2.50 each.  Imagine the picture above, but golden brown and delicious on the outside.

Mexican BBQ Night

Mexicans love meat and every region has it’s own BBQ.  On Monday, January 21st, we’ll be doing a special fixed-price BBQ night.  These days, most barbacoa is cooked in an oven.  However, traditionally most of it was cooked in underground pits.  We’ll be using our smoker to give it a 19th century flavor.  We’ll be serving:

Barbacoa de Borrego
spice-rubbed lamb pit-cooked in maguey leaves

Cochinita Pibil
achiote-rubbed pork marinated in sour orange juice and pit-cooked in plantain leaves

Chorizo Ahumado
smoked Mexican sausage

Colitas de Pavo
smoked turkey tails

Consomme (from the barbacoa), sides, tortillas and dessert will be included.  You will have leftovers.  Sorry, no vegetarian option.  Everything should be gluten-free.

Drinks are not included, but we’ll have our full drinks menu available: sodas, agua frescas, tequila and cocktails, draft beers, micheladas, and bottled beers.

Holiday Parties & Catering

Mi Mero Mole is available for holiday parties.  For $1,500, Sunday through Thursday night, we provide the space, food, drink (including bar and bartender), and staff for up to 100 people.  You provide the people.  Email us or call between 4pm and 6pm Tuesday through Sunday if interested.

Mexico City Food & Booze Tour

Mi Mero Mole and Experience Tequila are teaming up to offer a tour of Mexico City — 3 full days and 4 nights of eating and drinking the best of Mexico’s great metropolis from it’s lowly pulquerias and street stalls to its fancy mezcalerias and Polanco district restaurants.

All costs are included except the flight: four nights in a quality hotel, all meals, drinks, and transportation within the city.  We will have a private driver with a van, as well, to take us around the city.

Because this is our first tour together, we will be offering the tour at our cost: $850 per person for double-occupancy, $990 per person for single-occupancy. Those on the tour will need to arrive by Thursday, February 28th. Then we’ll have three full days and nights of touring with people leaving the following Monday, the 4th of March.
