Christmas Dinner

Sunday, December 14th, we’ll have our 3rd annual chile en nogada Christmas dinner. Chiles en nogada are one of the classics of 19th century Mexican convent cooking, combining elements from ancient Mexican, Spanish, North African, and French traditions.  In Mexico, it’s used to celebrate Independence Day, displaying all three colors of the Mexican flag.  But in the United States, pomegranates are a winter food and the red, green, and white are Christmas colors. Here’s the menu:

Butternut Squash Soup
with squash blossom cream and candied red jalapeno relish

Oaxacan Tamales
filled with carrots, raisins, and apples in mole negro wrapped in plantain leaves and topped with mole negro

Chile en Nogada
roasted poblano chile stuffed with mixture of pork (or butternut squash for vegetarians), nuts, candied fruit, pickled chiles, and olives topped with walnut cream sauce and pomegranate seeds

Budin de Pan con Rompope
bread pudding with Mexican rum-raisin crème anglaise

  • Tamales: Smoked turkey in mole or butternut squash in mole. $24 per dozen.
  • Mole Enchiladas: 9×13 inch pan of chicken or butternut squash enchiladas with mole and cheese. Just heat and serve. $15 per pan.
  • Chiles en Nogada: Roasted chiles stuffed with mixture of pork, nuts, candied fruit, pickled chiles, and olives topped with walnut cream sauce and pomegranate seeds. $7.50 per chile, minimum of 4 chiles. Vegetarian butternut squash version also available, but you must order at least four of each type that you order.
  • Sweet Treats:

    • Oaxacan-spiced Rice Crispy Treats, with orange, anise, and chile. Gluten-free. $18 per dozen.
    • Chocolate Mole Brownies. $24 per dozen.

Email us or call us (email preferred).  All our tamales are gluten-free as is our mole.  The mole does contain several nuts, including both peanuts and tree nuts.  The butternut squash mole enchiladas and tamales can be ordered vegan.

Tamalada / Tamale Party

In Mexican homes, the tamalada is a chance for families and friends to come together during the holidays and enjoy each other’s company while making tamales.  This year, we’d like you to join us for a tamale-making party at Mi Mero Mole.  We’ll supply the dough, the fillings, and the know-how.  You just be ready to have fun and learn.

We will have meat, seafood, veggie, and vegan fillings to choose from.  All will be gluten-free. Each person can take home a half-dozen tamales included in the price. (Each additional tamal $1.50.)

WHEN: Sunday, December 21st, 1pm
WHERE: Mi Mero Mole, Chinatown, NW 5th & Couch
PRICE: $12/adult, $6/child, $26/family of three, $30/family of four, $4 each additional child

Limited availability. To sign up, please email us or call us (email preferred).

Holiday Catering

Yes, we cater.  And we deliver.  We have catered parties for 10 to 200 people.  Generally, the cost is about $10 per person. Email us to work on a menu for your event.  (Our current restaurant on Division and our new restaurant downtown are available as event spaces, as well.)  We’ll work with you on special items for your New Year’s party even.

Delivery: Portland Pedal Power Partnership

We’ve recently partnered with Portland Pedal Power to offer delivery from our Chinatown location. Our food comes directly from our kitchen to you on bike. With the winter weather ahead, it’s a good option to get some tasty guisados without leaving your home or office.
