4 Course Meal with Local Author and Culinary Historian

Heather Arndt Anderson is a Portland-based culinary historian, author of Portland: A Food Biography and Breakfast: A History. Her latest book, Chillies: A Global History, tells the story of the spicy berry’s rise to prominence, showing that it was cultivated and venerated by the ancient people of Mesoamerica for millennia before Spanish explorers brought it back to Europe. She traces the chile’s spread along trading routes to every corner of the globe, and she explores the many important spiritual and cultural links that we have formed with it, from its use as an aphrodisiac to, in more modern times, an especially masochistic kind of eating competition.

To celebrate the release of this new book by Heather, our friend and local author, we will be cooking a four-course meal from it.  The meal includes a copy of the book and Heather will sign your copy and chat with you about chiles, Portland food history, or your favorite places to eat.
